Production assistant

As a Production Assistant at Gracenote, you will contribute to our ethos in the pursuit of quality and balance, be fully engaged with the process of roastery operations, and cultivate the self-awareness that is the precursor to living and working gracefully. The Production Assistant will work closely with our production roasters by first providing general support to the roasting department and support to operations and production.

It is expected that this position will evolve over time, starting with general support in roasting and fulfillment, and eventually more support with roasting itself. This successful applicant is cooperative, open to direction, is detail oriented, has a sense of discernment, is self motivated, and succeeds within a team. Breakdown and overview of tasks:

Responsibilities:

Roast preparation and support
Assist in the handling of green coffee for roasting and for inventory management. This will include team lifts of full green coffee bags (153lb).

Roasting
This responsibility will increase over time. The production assistant will initially assist with roasting for brief intervals and will be expected to be able to  operate the roaster as needed. The position will require the applicant to follow and document standard roasting procedures, communicate updates to other individuals or roles that will share roasting duties, take quality control samples along with recording color tracking data, roaster cleaning, and general daily/weekly cleaning. Report mechanical issues immediately. Other duties as assigned.

Fulfillment 
The position includes fulfillment and roasted coffee bagging / bag prep, organizing roasted and packaged coffee, weighing, packaging, and shipping. Other duties as assigned.

QC
Participate in regular cuppings. Share in set up and cleaning duties.

Qualifications:

Passion for Gracenote Coffee’s ethos and producing quality coffee. Previous experience working in coffee is not required. Must work well independently and as part of a team. Ability to solve problems and attention to detail required. Ability to communicate effectively and in a timely manner.

Physical Demands:

This job is performed in a warehouse work environment where conditions can be hot/cold, dusty and noisy. Gracenote will provide tools for helping employees address these conditions safely (ear protection, dust mask, gloves, etc).

Ability to lift up to 30-50 pounds regularly, on occasion up to 75 pounds (coffee sack team lift). This job requires standing, bending, walking and lifting on a continuous basis throughout the day. Frequent computer use/monitoring is required while working with the coffee roasting, bagging machines. While assisting with coffee production: ability to climb ladders, lift and carry bins up to 35 lbs. above 5ft., perform repetitive tasks and use cleaning products of medium toxicity.
